Fundraising Year to Date:
We set some ambitious goals this year from a fundraising standpoint so that we can continue to support our students and teachers. And, we are excited to share, that we are already exceed our goals! We set a goal of fundraising $24,000 for the Wolf Run - and we brought in over $24,200! We also started off our dine out fundraising nights with a bang - raising over $322 at our first event at Chipotle! We are excited to keep this trend going. Our next fundraising event is on November 6th at Burgerville.

Updates on the future of McKay:
Conversations around declining enrollment in the district are continuing to happen, especially in light of the rebuild of Raleigh Hills elementary. These conversations are primarily happening within a committee called the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, which currently meets monthly and is focused on drafting a proposal to address the declining enrollment and budget constraints of the district from a facilities perspective. PTC member, Erin Harper, sits on the committee and is happy to share any updates - please email her at erincarsonharper@gmail.com.

Details on the next Long Range Facilities (LRFP) meeting:
When: Wednesday, Oct 22 6:00–8:00 PM
Where: Beaverton School District Offices, 1260 NW Waterhouse Ave, Beaverton, OR

This meeting will shape the possible recommendations about facilities and programs in the school district. Though you won't have a chance to publicly comment, simply showing up matters—seeing neighbors in the room changes the conversation meaningfully.

The agenda for the LRFP meeting on October 22nd lays out a process for the district to make decisions when a school falls below 300 students (2 classes per grade level) or 225 students (1.5 classes per grade level), with consolidation on the table as an option. In 2032, 10 schools are projected to be at that sub-300 threshold (including McKay).

What to expect on Wednesday:
-
Discussion around potential scenarios under discussion
-
Presentation from district staff around their logic for decision-making
-
Decision around the "problem statement" that the LRFP committee will agree on
-
Opportunity to observe, take notes and figure out next steps as a community about how to show up for our schools in the next few critical months.

Who is the PTC and what do we actually do? We are parents and guardians who are committed to supporting McKay students and staff.
We organize the after-school events, fundraising activities, and volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. We meet monthly with Principal Ms. Kollings and teacher liaison Ms. Douglass to talk about both short- and long-term projects.

If you have ideas about something you'd like to see at school, please come to a meeting! All families are welcome! This is a great way to meet and connect with other families and really make a difference in our great school.

The McKay Elementary School Parent Teacher Club recognizes the vital role we play in supporting our students and their families. We are committed to ensuring that every child in our community has an equal opportunity to thrive academically and socially, regardless of their economic background. Funds we raise throughout the year directly support a variety of critical initiatives that enrich our students' educational experiences.

We are passionate about making sure all students have equal opportunities to succeed and that diverse perspectives are acknowledged, respected, and celebrated.
