What does the PTC do?

Funds raised by the McKay PTC support enrichment events for students and families all school year! Here are some of the activities we're proud to help fund!

School Events

We aim to create a vibrant and inclusive school community by organizing various during- and after-school events that bring students, families, and staff together. These events not only build strong relationships within our community but also provide safe, engaging activities for students outside of regular school hours.

Events include: Back to School Night, Winter Dance, Art Night, Family Picnic, and Spring Carnival. All our school events remain free for families.

Field Trips

We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, and field trips are an essential part of our students' growth and development. Our goal is to ensure that these experiences are accessible to all students, without any financial burden on families. We aim to continue offering field trips that are 100% free, providing all students with the opportunity to explore, learn, and engage with the wider world.

For the 2023-24 school year, some of our field trips included:

  • Pre-K and Kindergartners visited Dig PDX and the Beaverton Library.

  • First graders enjoyed the Oregon Zoo

  • Second grade visited OMSI

School Supplies

For the 2024-25 school year, the PTC took care of purchasing and distributing all school supplies - saving you a trip to the store!

If feasible for your family, you can donate up to $30/student back to the PTC to help us offset costs. You can drop off cash or check to the front office or find us on PayPal HERE.

Art Lit

Beyond our core curriculum, we strive to offer programs that cultivate creativity and critical thinking. Art Literacy is a district-wide, volunteer-led program that brings hands-on art lessons to the classroom 6 times a year.  PTC funds help purchase new art supplies for the Art Lit program, ensuring students have access to the materials and experiences they need to help foster a love of the arts.

We are always looking for volunteers for our Art Lit program!

Staff Appreciation Week

Our teachers and staff are the backbone of our school community, dedicating their time and energy to nurture and educate our children. We are grateful to express our gratitude during Staff Appreciation Week, showing our educators how much they are valued and appreciated. This recognition boosts morale and fosters a positive environment, ultimately benefiting the students.

This year's teacher appreciation week is May 5-May 9, 2025

Passport Club

Our children's future is global - shouldn't they understand the globe? Passport Club is an optional geography enrichment program for elementary students that helps:

  • Build a foundation in global literacy.

  • Inspire curiosity about the world.

  • Make existing curriculum global.

Students learn the locations of the world’s countries and begin to develop an understanding of our complex world. This program is run by the PTC and Passport Club team.

Biz Town

McKay 5th graders get a taste of the real world with their yearly visits to BizTown. In the simulated town, students experience the working world and the BizTown economy as a consumer during their lunch and shopping breaks. BizTown is a wonderful experience to connect the dots from the classroom to the real world and to discover the abundance of opportunities available to them. The McKay PTC provides funds for bussing and all fees for the BizTown visit

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)

The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program.  Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.

OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

McKay Student Scholarships

The PTC offers multiple $500 scholarships for previous McKay students who are pursuing higher education.
