Passport Club
By immersing students in a journey across the globe, we expose them to the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and histories that make our world so beautifully diverse.
What is Passport Club? Passport Club is a geography enrichment program where students learn the locations of the world’s countries and begin to develop an understanding of our complex world. In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, fostering global awareness and cultural understanding is more crucial than ever.
The Passport Club creators believe that teaching elementary and middle school students the locations of countries goes beyond memorizing maps; it's about cultivating curiosity, empathy, and a deep appreciation for diversity. This program is designed to spark a sense of wonder about the world, igniting a passion for exploration and a thirst for knowledge beyond borders.
The Passport Club serves as a catalyst for building a generation of socially conscious, globally aware citizens. We can empower our students to embrace the world with open hearts and open minds, fostering a brighter future for us all.

How does it work? Each month, a new map is sent home with a list of geographical locations organized into 5 levels. Families can select how many levels make sense for their student and learn the locations of each country from the month's map before the map review day.

Passport Club map review day. Review days are scheduled for the first Friday of each month. McKay volunteers will be available from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. in the BH&W room (across from the cafeteria). Students will work with volunteers to identify geographical locations and add stamps to their passport book for the month. There are 2 ways volunteers will conduct the reviews:
-
Traditional testing where the volunteer will go level by level, asking the student to point to the country that is called out.
-
Working in small groups to color the locations on a blank map. This is a great option for younger students, limited study time, or traditional testing is not a good fit for your student.

Get involved! Volunteers during the review mornings are always appreciated and welcome -- NO geography experience is needed! You do not need to commit to the full year -- drop-in volunteers welcome! Volunteers work with individual or small groups of students reviewing the map to identify the locations for the month. Please contact Gillian Johnston at gillian@gillianism.com for more information or to sign up to volunteer.
